​Hello! My name is Kevin Gaskill, and I’m excited to begin my 10th year of teaching. I started my career in Colorado, where I taught for two years before moving to Florida. For the past seven years, I taught at Hinson Middle School, and I’m now thrilled to be joining the team at Ivy Hawn.
I live in New Smyrna Beach with my wife, Izabella. Outside of school, I enjoy electric biking, visiting Disney, and playing both piano and trumpet. I’m passionate about helping students grow both musically and personally, and I’m looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!

Building Music Skills: Like a video game character
In band class, we don’t just learn something new every day and move on. Instead, we grow by consistently improving a set of core musical skills—just like building up stats for a character in a video game. Think of your favorite golf game: characters don’t improve just by swinging once. They practice power, accuracy, recovery, and more—over and over.
The same is true for musicians. We focus on specific musical “stats” and revisit them throughout the year in a rotating, spiraling way. Even after 20+ years of playing music, Mr. Gaskill still works on these skills—because musicians are always leveling up.
